A 1945 graduate of  Raymond High School, Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Upon returning from the service, he continued to farm the rest of his life. Melvin was also a firefighter with the Perry Township Fire Department and also served as Fire Chief. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed working puzzles and “tinkering” in the barn. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Born November 8, 1926 in Richwood, OH, he was the son of the late Melvin L. and Mary (Jerew) Douglas. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Rex Douglas; his grandchildren, Kelly and Greg Douglas; a daughter-in-law, Carol and his sisters, Lucille, Gertie, Helen, Isabelle and Phyllis.

On May 11, 1948 in Kentucky, he married his beloved wife of 69 years, Ruth (Eubanks) and she survives in East Liberty. He is also survived by his children, Gary Douglas and Vickie (Roy) Crites of Zanesfield; grandchildren, Cristina (Wayne Thomas) Crites, Chris (Alysia) Crites, Courtney (Guy) Butts, Lynn Douglas, Kerry Douglas, Michelle Barbu and Jamie Douglas; several great grandchildren and a brother, Richard Douglas of Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Reverend Tom Amlin will officiate and burial will follow at the East Liberty Cemetery where Military Rites will be observed by the Logan County Veterans. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
