Mary “Jean” Rice, 94, of West Mansfield, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness.
Born March 10, 1923 in West Mansfield in the home where she lived, she was the daughter of the late N.P. and Mabel (King) McColloch. On October 1, 1947 in Lexington, KY she married her husband of 43 years, James M. Rice and he preceded her in death in 1990. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight McColloch.
A graduate of West Mansfield High School and Miami University, she was a dietician with the Cincinnati Hospital. A member of the West Mansfield Baptist Church, she belonged to the Kings Daughters Silver Circle at the church. Jean enjoyed gardening, watching sports, debating politics, traveling with the senior bus tours, swimming at the Y in the exercise class but most of all she cherished her time spent with grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (Dean) Starr of Dana Point, CA, Carol (Jerry) Dickinson of Cameron MT, Susan (Steve) Neusse of Dallas, TX; her son, Jim (Shari) Rice of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Patrick Starr of Berkeley, CA, Christopher Starr of San Clemente, CA, Whitney Heike of Dallas, TX, Chad (Laura) Dickinson of Ennis, MT, Kelli Tevis of Bellefontaine, Alyssa Rice of Huntsville, James (Erica) Rice of West Mansfield and Sara Rice of West Mansfield; great grandchildren, Tanner Heike, Agustus, Paige, Logan and Reese Dickinson, Tyler and Trace Tevis, Harrison Rice and niece and nephew, Tom McColloch and Alice Millhouse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the West Mansfield Baptist Church. Reverend Gary Staats will officiate. Burial will be held privately for the family at the Greenlawn Cemetery in West Mansfield. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10-11 A.M. Tuesday at the church.
