MANNASMITH CHAPEL MARYSVILLE, OHIO

On July 1, 1979, Roger & Becky Mannasmith purchased the Postle-Hale Funeral Home from Dallas and Julia Hale. In so doing, they became the fifth owners of the longest established funeral home in Marysville located at 621 West Fifth Street.

Built between 1861-1864 as a residence for Cornelius Springer Hamilton, the brick home is an excellent example of the popular Italianate architecture that was popular during that era. L.H. Miller established the first funeral home at the location in 1924.

In 1945 the funeral home was sold to William Lee, and in 1952 the name changed once again to Postle Funeral Home. Dallas Hale assumed ownership of the operation upon the death of his father-in-law, M.L. Postle, and operated the business with his wife, Julia, until the eventual sale to the Mannasmiths.

The Mannasmiths, who have also owned Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home in West Mansfield since March 1, 1996, have worked extremely hard to improve the business over the years. Two major additions that enhanced operations were the back parking lot and the Mannasmith West Chapel. The West Chapel houses the casket selection room, which can be converted into a much larger visitation area, the family conference area, a monument selection area, the preparation room, and offices.

SCHNURRENBERGER CHAPEL WEST MANSFIELD, OHIO

The Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home enjoys a rich and esteemed history that dates back to the beginning of the 20th Century. Bert C. Ballinger purchased the present day location from C.W. Lane in January of 1902 and established the Ballinger Funeral Home and Furniture Business. His son, Cletus, joined in the operation of Ballinger & Son Funeral Home and carried on their honorable traditions after the death of Bert in 1941. Cletus was assisted in business by his son, Bertice Ballinger II, who also operated funeral homes in Richwood and Prospect. Cletus died in 1966, and Bertice II died in 1969.

The Ballinger family sold the funeral home in 1971 to John and Marie Schnurrenberger. The Schnurrenbergers raised their 3 children, Linda, John Jr., and Susan in the funeral home and were highly regarded for their devotion to the funeral business and their deep compassion for the families they served. John and Marie remain active members of the West Mansfield community and are still held in high regards for their years of service to this town.

Roger and Becky Mannasmith purchased the Schnurrenberger Funeral Home on March 1, 1996, to complement their already established business in Marysville. Roger’s early training allowed him to work closely with the Ballinger family in Richwood, and he was extremely honored to be able to purchase one of their former businesses. The establishment of Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home allowed the hiring of another funeral director and embalmer. Derric Brown was hired to fill this role on October 7, 1996, and now serves both funeral homes. On October 31, 2014, the funeral home was purchased by Woody Wilson and he continues the long standing service to the West Mansfield community.
